History and Development
The Jamaica Organic
Agriculture Movement (JOAM) is a
non-governmental organization and is a
registered limited liability company that is
managed by a seven-person Board of
Directors.
JOAM was established in
May 2001 after the demise of the previously
established JOGA; Jamaica Organic Growers
Association. Since its establishment in
2001, JOAM has been managed by two
chairpersons, Dr. Joseph Lindsay and
currently Dr. Dwight Robinson, who is now
serving his second consecutive term.
Organizational
Structure
An structure for JOAM was approved at
the annual general meeting held October
2003. The structure, which is outlined
below, fosters greater member involvement
and increases interaction between the
members and the board.
The Chairs of the
subcommittees
and of the
regional groups
all sit on the
management steering committee (MSC),
which is responsible for the general
administration JOAM. The MSC reports to the
Board of Directors.
A
standing committee
was also been designated to facilitate
individuals who may not be members of JOAM
but possess and volunteered special skills
needed by the organization.
